Seriously, that's just plain stupid and ignorant said. This time noone got hurt but earthquakes are extremely dangerous. Just look at the earthquake in China a few months ago. And there's other people than Hollywood stars in LA.

Of course we were.
Actually, this was to be expected. There are two plates moving along each other on America's west coast, they push each other's sidse so much and so long till the eventually move a bit, unleashing an enormous amount of energy which creates earthquakes. More earthquakes will follow, cuz the san andreas plate (that's the opposite moving one) is moving north, so this means sillicon valley will eventually end up high in the US.
